After Cassandra concluded her statement, she extended her hand toward Cedric. “Give me your hand. Let’s start the Unbreakable Vow!”
Without any hesitation, Cedric reciprocated, clasping Cassandra’s hand.
He spoke with conviction, “I am willing to join, not because I have no way out of this situation, but because I know Wentworth has no way out due to the weight of carrying Grindelwald as his surname and his position as the Alliance Leader that came with it. I’m willing to give my best for this genuine friendship that was forged before I knew of his true identity.
As Cassandra and Cedric shook hands, Green, standing nearby, couldn’t help but clap softly and exclaim, “It’s truly fantastic. It’s a shame I don’t have a camera; If I had one right now I would have recorded this night, this moment! It was one of the historic nights in the Alliance’s past that the future members would love to see! ‘The founder and co-founder of the most crucial team of the Alliance were making an Unbreakable Vow, documented by the most awesome member of the Alliance.'”
However, before Green could say more, he noticed both Cassandra and Cedric giving him a peculiar look simultaneously.
Green lowered his hand somewhat disappointedly, and Cassandra, rolling her eyes, urged, “Hurry up!”
“Huh? Hurry up with what?” Green asked, confused.
Cassandra frowned and retorted, “Of course, it’s the Unbreakable Vow! Didn’t you see that the two of us were ready?”
Hearing Cassandra’s words, Green’s eyes widened in surprise, and he exclaimed, “Who told you I know anything about the Unbreakable Vow? Just so you know, even with 10 O.W.L.s certificates, Hogwarts never taught the Unbreakable Vow!”
Upon hearing Green’s response, Cassandra’s eyes widened involuntarily. “You should’ve said that from earlier, Senior!”
Standing beside her, Cedric looked at Cassandra with surprise and asked, “Cassandra, can’t you make an Unbreakable Vow? You came up with this idea!”
Responding with annoyance, Cassandra said, “I’m only a second year at Hogwarts! Second year! Where can I learn the Unbreakable Vow? Besides, with my current magical power, I can’t use it! Who would have thought that Green, the strange prefect, doesn’t know this magic spell!”
Feeling somewhat aggrieved, Green added, “Being a Prefect and knowing how to make an Unbreakable Vow have nothing to do with each other, okay?!” He said furiously.
In this moment of disappointment, Cedric pondered the situation and proposed two options: “Well, there are two options now. First, give up the so-called Unbreakable Vow, and second, find a place at Hogwarts where we can learn the Unbreakable Vow.”
Hearing Cedric’s words, Cassandra and Green exchanged glances and simultaneously exclaimed, “Forbidden book area!”
With a decision in mind, Cassandra hurriedly suggested, “Cedric, you can help us outside the library while Green and I try to sneak into the forbidden area.”
However, as they were discussing their plans, an unexpected voice interrupted them from behind, in the direction of the corridor. The voice said, “Don’t be bothered about it, don’t even try to get yourself into trouble; I can help you cast an Unbreakable Vow!”
Faced with the sudden voice behind them, the trio reacted swiftly, each drawing their wands and turning to confront the source of the sound.
Cedric exclaimed, “Expelliarmus!” while Cassandra cast, “Stupefy!” and Green cast the spell, “Confringo!”
Had it been anyone else, they might have fallen victim to the spells instantly, but standing behind them was none other than Snape, the foremost dueling expert in the magical world.
Snape effortlessly countered the spells, though a trace of admiration flashed across his face. He remarked, “Who dares to cast these dangerous spells pointed at other individual? You’ve got good reflexes, but unfortunately, your skills are lacking. Are you truly determined to get involved in these matters?”
As the three realized it was Professor Snape standing behind them, Green signaled for Cedric and Cassandra to lower their wands.
Being a seasoned inhabitant of Hogwarts, Green understood that the three of them stood no chance against the Professor, even if he was a potions master.
Attempting to explain, Green began, “Professor Snape, we were just—” but before he could finish, Snape cut him off, stating, “I don’t have time to listen to your stories. I overheard everything outside the door just now.”
Upon hearing Snape’s words, Green couldn’t help but display a wry smile and responded, “Well, it seems we still have a lot to learn! Who would have thought that a Hogwarts professor would eavesdrop, right? So, what’s your plan, Professor Snape?”
Ignoring Green’s sarcasm, Snape cut to the chase, stating, “I’ve already mentioned it; I can help you cast an Unbreakable Vow.”
Upon hearing Snape’s offer, the trio exchanged glances, and none of them displayed unbridled joy.
After a brief silence, Cassandra inquired, “What must we do for you in return, Professor?”
Snape’s gaze moved methodically between the three faces as he spoke, “I want you to protect a person. No matter what happens, ensure their safety.”
Upon hearing Snape’s condition, Cassandra, Green, and Cedric exchanged glances once again. This time, Cedric broke the silence with a question, “Professor, who is it that you want us to protect?”
Snape delivered his answer deliberately after a moment of contemplation, “Harry Potter.”
Upon hearing Snape’s response, Cedric let out a sigh of relief, realizing that the person to be safeguarded was someone he could accept.
However, Cassandra and Green wore furrowed brows simultaneously. Snape’s words triggered a shared contemplation of a certain possibility.
In an attempt to seek clarification, Green cautiously inquired, “Is it because that individual is making a return?”
Snape, choosing transparency, responded promptly, “Yes.” He answered coldly.
Green fell into sudden silence upon absorbing Snape’s revelation.
Snape, choosing not to push the matter, allowed a moment of reflection. In the meantime, Cassandra rose to her feet and declared, “We made a promise!”
Green was about to express his thoughts, but Cassandra preemptively anticipated his sentiment. She gazed at Green before articulating, “We’re not playing games. This path is fraught with challenges, and we were well aware of that, weren’t we? If that person truly returns, then sooner or later, our paths will intersect. Whether we want it or not, if we want to clear out the path for Wentworth and Alliance to move forward, then this is the first step we must take!”
Having spoken, Cassandra extended her hand once more to Green and Cedric, posing a question, “Who among you will go first?”
In response, Cedric stepped forward, taking Cassandra’s hand.
Concurrently, Snape approached, joining their grasp, wand in hand, directing a focused finger toward their connection.
“Answer my questions truthfully, put your hearts into this, and don’t wave on your answers or you’ll know the consequences!” Snape warned.
The three stared at each other as they convinced their heart to take the vows under the guidance of Professor Snape.
They didn’t even bother to ask him anything about why he wants them to protect Harry Potter. They simply looked at it as their first task as the other part of the Alliance that’ll pave the road for Wentworth to walk on smoothly.
